Now a federal holiday, you know I had to hold it down with Millennium AgeF6ix Nightclub and celebrate the freedom day of all freed African-Americans everywhere. As a person of color, this was a particularly important weekend for me, regardless of if Juneteenth had become a federal holiday or not. I try to celebrate it everywhere. So what is Juneteenth and why is it so important to African-Americans? Long story short, June 19th, 1865 was the actual day the slaves in Galveston Bay, Texas found out that they were free people. Although President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. Although President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863, it could not be implemented in territories controlled by the confederacy.  On June 19th, 1865, 2000 Union Soldiers marched into Galveston Bay, Texas marking the day all slaves in America was free. This is why Juneteenth is such an important date for those that are descendent of slaves here in America. It was the day all slaves in American were truly free.
